I never got a bill but got a call from the company, and I paid over the phone. The late fee, which was supposed to be written off balooned to 300 dollars and ended up going to debt collection. I never received any bill , either for the original amount or the late fee. 1. I never got the original bill or any notice. I could not prove that that I never received the bill - Is there any way the original debt owner can be made to send a 'certified' mail of the bill/debt notice ? 2. Debt collector gave me 1 day notice before he was going to file something in the court in the state. I was busy and scared - paid the money he asked. Is there anyway debt collectors can be forced to give some notice ? 3. Debt collector was supposed to mark the credit record as paid so that there would not be a negative mark. He did not. Is there a fool proof way to make sure that the credit report is not affected when all of the debt is paid in full ?
