Debt collectors are a business, and as such have frequent opportunity to hone their "pitch" when contacting someone. Contacting a dead person's friends, relatives, etc., to collect the debt is wrong; taking money from anyone other than the estate's executor is wrong. The dead person's estate is the correct source of funds, not other people who may have known the dead person.
